If the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Alice in Wonderland is the 1951 animated Disney character, blond hair, blue dress, white apron and all, you’re an Alpha Alice. On the other hand, if the first thing you think of includes, in any way, shape or form, Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane or the rock classic, “White Rabbit”, you’re a Beta Alice.
If your mental image of the Mad Hatter is a fussy but loveable old grandfatherly-type character, count yourself an Alpha Alice. If that same description of the Mad Hatter, or frankly, any other film character, gives you the creeps, you’re Beta. However, if you’re an Alpha Alice, but have been known to have this weird train-wreck kind of interest Carrot Top or any reality show featuring Danny Bonaduce, give yourself a Beta Alice point, as well.
If you’re looking forward to the inevitable line of adorably Alice-themed children’s clothing that follows any Disney franchise, again, Alpha. If you have kids that wore nothing but Disney from head to toe as toddlers, and now show that same taste for authenticity in nose rings and full-appendage tattoos, you’re Beta.
This movie will, of course, attract all Johnny Depp fans, but let’s narrow down that one, too. Alpha Alice’s are all about Jack Sparrow and Pirates of the Caribbean (all three movies), many still having at least one poster on a wall somewhere in their home. Beta Alice’s have been on board since Crybaby, adored Edward Scissorhands, and prefer to think of Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas as another of Depp’s brilliant performances (because really, no matter how dreadful that movie was, the only person to ever do Hunter Thompson better is, well......Hunter Thompson.)
Now comes the moment of truth. If you were a Beta Alice in any one or more of the above scenarios, you’re going to love Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland in 3D. It’s dark, colorful, dysfunctionally sentimental and likely to be one of Burton’s most notable films yet. Be sure you see it in 3D theaters to make it a truly memorable experience.
If, however, you were an Alpha Alice two or more times, consider waiting it out then to watch Alice in Wonderland free now to another few weeks when another 3D feature more suitable to your tastes is scheduled for release. It’s about a dragon.
